Tragic end to a perfect Las Vegas day.

A quiet walk through a southwest Las Vegas neighborhood ended in tragedy after an elderly woman was shot and killed during what police believe was an attempted robbery.

According to investigators, the woman had been out walking when the violence unfolded, leaving nearby residents stunned that something so brutal could happen in the middle of an ordinary day.

Police say the shooting appears to have been random, adding another layer of fear for people living in the area. Neighbors described shock and disbelief as crime scene tape surrounded streets normally associated with evening walks, quiet homes, and routine daily life.

Investigators quickly arrested a suspect, after his genius girlfriend called and reported his very distinctive car as stolen. There were wtnesses to the crime and the car had been caught on several cameras in the neighborhood. Police were actively searching for it and this thug's girlfriend made it a lot easier on everybody.

The killing has renewed concerns about violent street crime and the growing unpredictability of robberies that escalate with little warning.
